Despite earning a bachelor's degree in music, Walker's path diverged as she spent five years working in higher education in New York City. However, her time at The Juilliard School reignited her passion for opera and singing, setting her on a course to pursue her dreams.

When the pandemic forced her to move back to Georgia, Walker continued her work remotely for Juilliard while exploring graduate school opportunities. Remembering a vocal coach she had met at Juilliard, Diane Richardson, who happened to be an associate professor at Binghamton University, Walker decided to apply and was awarded a scholarship.

Transitioning back into the role of a student after years in the workforce presented its challenges, but Walker embraced them wholeheartedly. She immersed herself in the Binghamton University music program, participating in opera performances and delving into her studies with passion and dedication.

One of the highlights of her time at Binghamton was the opportunity to study with Assistant Professor of Voice Brenda Iglesias, whose expertise and guidance proved invaluable in refining Walker's vocal technique.

Walker's master's thesis recital, inspired by her research in Assistant Professor Sarah Gerk's music history course, showcased works by Black composers such as Florence Price and Paul Robeson, reflecting her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices in the classical music world.

As she prepares to graduate, Walker's sights are set on furthering her education through an artist diploma program in performance, with the ultimate goal of portraying iconic roles in operatic masterpieces like Verdi's La Traviata and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.

Her journey is not just about achieving personal success; it's about embracing her love for opera, pushing her boundaries, and inspiring others with her dedication to the art form. With her unwavering passion and determination, Kiara Walker is poised to make a lasting impact in the world of classical music.
