Iran presidential election to go to runoff after first round deadlock
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates CNN – Iran's presidential election is set to go to a runoff after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in Friday's vote, according to election commission spokesman Mohsen Eslami. The runoff, set to take place on July 5, will be between the candidates who received the most votes. Reformist lawmaker and former health minister Massoud Pezeshkian is ahead of hardline national security adviser and former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili. The results will be scrutinized by the influential Guardian Council before the two leading candidates can resume their campaigns.
